Here at Canyoning Queenstown we were so excited to read this amazing news from DOC: ‘We have seen rapid increases in rare birds such as Kaka , Whio (blue duck) and Mohua (yellowhead). Just this week a family of Whio were photographed right next to the routeburn track.’ DOC

THE ROUTEBURN CANYON

Routeburn Canyon: canyoning in a world heritage area. The routeburn canyon is one of our full day canyoning options. The trip begins with a stunning drive down Lake Wakatipu, through Glenorchy, and up the Dart River Valley. Views of the lake, Mount Earnslaw, and Mt Aspiring national park abound. Then a hike along the famous Routeburn Track brings you to the start of the canyon. The sound of rushing water rises slowly from the forest, signaling that adventure is near. As you come round the last bend, sapphire blue water cascading down slate grey rocks pops out against the lush temperate rainforest. You look down into the canyon and wonder, 'How are we going to get down this thing?'
