What is Via Ferrata?
Via Ferrata means "iron road" in Italian. It is a series of iron steps, fixed into the rock face and supported by a safety cable – allowing you to scale rock faces with ease that would normally only be accessible to highly trained mountaineers. It was used for centuries by farmers in Europe to access highland pastures, from remote alpine villages. Now it is growing in popularity as an adventure tourism experience.
Our Via Ferrata trip, is a guided climb in the Queenstown gorge. You’ll climb cliffs carved out by enormous, 1000m deep glaciers that extended out from the Southern Alps - with climbers peaking out on the Queenstown Hill massif, overlooking the town and Lake Wakatipu.
